Heat Flow Fundamentals

There are three modes of heat transfer:

• Radiant Heat
• Conductive Heat
• Convective Heat

Of the three types of heat transfer, radiant heat from the sun is the primary source of heat gain in buildings; conductive and convective heat are secondary and only come into play as building materials interrupt the transfer of radiant heat flow.
